Woman sitting in the moon

Is There Such a Thing as Balance?

“Balance is not something you find; it's something you create.” - Jana Kingsford

Balance. Is it real? Or just something we’re told to chase?

I’ve been contemplating this for a long time.
As a mother, we wear many hats—caregiver, partner, worker, daughter, sister… the list is endless.
And in all this chaos, where do we find balance?

Some days, I’m across everything.
I’ve got my list, my rhythm, my energy.
Other days, I throw my hands up and say, it’s not happening today. I’m exhausted.

It’s the shifting, the juggling, the constant motion.
Hoping that near enough is good enough—
All the while feeling low on fuel… or worse, running on empty.

Some nights, I fall into bed thinking, Tomorrow is another day.

I picture a set of scales.
One side heavy with responsibilities, expectations, tasks.
And slowly, I try to shift the weight,
To even it out.
To find balance.

But here’s what I’ve come to realise,
Life moves in patterns.
In tides.
There are ebbs and flow, just like the ocean.

When the tide is full, I surge, I accomplish, I create, I give.
And I love it.

When the tide is low, I rest.
I do what I can, and I leave the rest for when the tide returns.
Because it always does.
Even when it feels like it won’t.

Woman Balancing

Balance, maybe, isn’t a fixed point.
Maybe it’s not something to achieve.
Maybe it’s a rhythm to honour.

And here’s something else I’ve noticed,
My rhythm doesn’t just follow the calendar.
It follows the moon.

The waxing, the waning.
The fullness, the emptiness.
It mirrors my own cycle
My energy, my emotions, my body.

There are days I feel radiant, magnetic, unstoppable.
And days I feel tender, inward, quiet.
It’s not random.
It’s ancient.
It’s biology, yes. But it’s also sacred.

Like a piece of music—rising, swelling, softening into silence.
Like the tide—ebbing and flowing with emotion, energy, and release.
There’s rhythm in our bodies. There’s wisdom in the waves.

We are lunar beings.
Cyclical, not linear.
And when we honour that, something shifts.

We stop fighting ourselves.
We stop measuring our worth by productivity.
We start listening.
We start flowing.

It’s about giving myself grace.
Understanding my seasons.
Being kind to myself.
Sharing the load with those I love.

It’s about trusting that I don’t need to be everything, every day.
That showing up as I am tired, radiant, uncertain, strong—is enough.
Honouring who I am in each moment
That’s the first step toward balance.

Or maybe… balance is just a word someone made up to keep us striving.
What if striving isn’t the goal? What if softness is?

What if we looked at it differently?
What if we moved with our natural rhythms, like the moon?
What if peace and grounding helped us understand our own tides?

We might be gentler with ourselves.
And with the people we love.

I hope this inspires you to take a deeper look at your life
To notice how you move through it.
It may surprise you what you see.

If this message resonates, share it with someone who might need it.
Let’s remind each other that balance isn’t a destination—it’s a dance.
